Got back the pots my friend fired, the cracks were indeed impressive, but the glaze out of the gas fire was impressive, too. The two pots were fired at different heights in the kiln, and were quite different colours.

This one was the nicer of the two – I need to do some work on getting photos to come out in a more true colour – but it’s almost blue-grey, turning to purple inside, and the unglazed clay has also developed a warmed colour. My old teacher used to say that ash glazes turn completely different colours under reduction, and I assumed she was exaggerating a bit, but I guess I was wrong.
